Getting to Know You!

Hey Everyone! We're here introducing Ashlee Virginia Events newest team member, Lisa Anderson. She was born and raised in Prince George's County Maryland, but has been living in Northern Virginia since 2003. Lisa has played volleyball and softball for over 15 years, and is a die hard Redskins fan who enjoys a good day of football. You could say she's a "girly-girl, tom-boy" who loves to get dirty but also loves to get pretty, and dress up.  Her favorites are pizza, ice cream, movies, the beach, design, and WEDDINGS!

Lisa is not only keeping busy with Ashlee Virginia Events, but is also overseeing her own upcoming wedding. She is marrying a firefighter she met in a local grocery store....and the rest is history! Lisa and Jason are due to tie the knot in early February of 2012, and we all can't wait to see how it turns out.

Cheers to Lisa and Jason and welcome to the AVE family!

Jennifer and Dave's Spring Willard Wedding

Last month, I had a lush, beautiful wedding at the Willard Hotel in Downtown DC. I met Jennifer last spring at a bridal show and knew she was going to have a great event. Both her and Dave were as SWEET as can be. They also had the nicest families. I would have never guessed that Jennifer's mom knew how to Dougie ;)

Enjoy the pictures!

Jealousy...

So I'll admit it...last week I was pretty jealous that while I was putting the finishing touches on a wedding, my lovely FH was out and about frockling around Kentucky going on Whiskey Trails and (what stings the most) at the KENTUCKY DERBY!

I have longed to go to the Kentucky Derby since I can ever remember. Any excuse I could use to wear one of those awesome fascinators... I'm there!

I am loving Gina Foster's entire collection!!!

It would have been a tough decision to pick from her phenomenal line.  My favorites are:

This trend seriously needs to come to the States and stay!!

I should be receiving pictures from two recent events so stay tuned... :)

No Wedding Band for Prince William???

I love hearing all the details about the Royal Wedding just as much as the next person, if not more, but not sure how I feel about this....

No Ring? Will and Kate break form tradition, along with more couples

By Piper Weiss, Shine StaffFri, Apr 1, 2011 7:00 PM GMT+00:00

British palace officials have confirmed that Prince William has rejected one of the most hallowed traditions in marriage: the wedding ring. "There is only going to be one ring, in accordance with the couple's wishes," a royal spokesperson tells People. That ring is a Welsh gold band bequeathed by the queen as a family heirloom to Kate. Meanwhile, William has decided to go jewelry free. "It was something the couple discussed but Prince William isn't one for jewelry," a St. James Palace aid tells the Daily Mail. "It really is just down to personal preference."

It’s a bold decision for any groom to make, royal or no.  Even Will’s father, Charles, wears a wedding band beneath his signet ring. But according to insiders, he has Kate's blessing. And after 10 years together, some decisions are best made by the couple, not the public.
Ever since their engagement, Will and Kate have held tight reins on their wedding planning.  “They are very much in charge and giving us in the Household Office firm direction on all aspects,” Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton, William’s private secretary reveals to Vanity Fair. Unlike Charles' and Diana's royally micro-managed ceremony, Kate and Will are making sure their personal thumbprints are on their big day. Already, their plans for a finger food buffet, charitable donations in lieu of gifts, and emailed save the dates are departures from old-school formalities. Even the bride’s traditional chariot ride to the church has been eschewed in favor of a more private limo ride. The message respectful but firm: It’s their wedding and they want to have fun.
In that way, Will and Kate aren't so different from the average American bride and groom. “People are just less bound by tradition now,” says Jessica Grose, managing editor of Slate’s women’s site Double XX. “They can pick and choose what parts of marriage's trappings they want to observe or not observe.”
Like the royals, more couples are getting married at an older age, so they’re not as reliant on their family for funding or etiquette guidelines. A higher percentage of couples are also co-habitating before their wedding day, so they’re used to making major decisions together that cater to their personal tastes.
That flexibility doesn’t just come down to wedding choices, but marital decisions as well. "Some people are choosing if they should take their husband's name, or if they even want to have a wedding," says Grose, whose Home Economics column tracks the changing face of marital finance plans. When she married last year, after living with her partner for four years, Grose realized her parent's approach to joint bank accounts just didn’t seem to apply to her more modern lifestyle, so she and her husband developed a modified version of the traditional joint account.
"People just have more flexibility to make their own choices as they get older," she says. "You're not going to have this princess fantasy when you're thirty and living together for four years—even if you're Kate Middleton."
As the princess fantasy fades with age, so does the Bridezilla nightmare.  Cupcakes, finger food and DIY wedding favors may have all become trends during the recession, but they've stayed strong as couples look to put more whimsical and personalized touches to their big day.
Grooms are also getting more say in the wedding planning process. One of this year’s biggest trends is "wedding man caves." “Blackjack tables, brandy bars, PlayStations and stogies,” writes The Knot’s Carla Roney. “The man cave has officially moved from the home to the wedding.”
But don’t expect Will's no-wedding-band trend to catch on. "One of the main reasons people even wear rings is to signal that they're taken," writes The Stir's Marissa Brown. "Besides being a signal to others, I really think it serves as a warm-and-fuzzy and important visual reminder to the couple themselves."
“William doesn't need to wear a ring because everyone in the world knows he’s taken,” says Grose, “but I can’t imagine too many women being okay with their husbands trying the same thing.”

Oxon Hill Manor

Yesterday I had an 11:00 am meeting with Kitchen Gourmet, for an engagement party I am planning toward the end of April at Oxon Hill Manor. Never knowing how traffic is going to be, I left about 2 hours early. Traffic, for whatever reason, was great that day! I ended up stopping by National Harbor to grab a cup of coffee and window shop.

One of the best things about Oxon Hill Manor is its location. It is no more than 5 minutes from National Harbor! There are multiple hotels to fit all budgets and any type of restaurant you can think of! There are also some really cute little boutiques you can shop in as well.

I did Jenni and Ryan's wedding at Oxon Hill last year, and I must say, it was one of the best weddings I've been to. There wasn't a single person there that didn't have an absolute BLAST! I was also introduced to the Black Tie Band, my favorite DC area band. It literally sounded like Usher, Lady Gaga, and Justin Timberlake were performing at their wedding. It was unbelievable!

Oxon Hill Manor is a historic mansion, built in the 1920s for Sumner Welles, who became a Assistant Secretary of State under Franklin D. Roosevelt.  There is a formal garden next to the mansion, and the site has a spectacular view of the Potomac river and Alexandria, Virginia.

Any who....Oxon Hill Manor is amazing. End of story :)

Rosemont Manor

Yesterday I had the pleasure of being invited out to Rosemont Manor and meeting the owner Biff and the GM Bill. They were both two of the nicest people! I picked up one of my best friends, Camy, who also does Event Planning, and headed west! Now if you live in the area you would know that yesterday's weather was crazy! We had 60 mph winds! Camy and I seriously thought that my little car was going to blow off the side of the mountain! Needless to say the trip was well worth it!

About an hour outside of Washington DC is the beautiful, historic Rosemont Manor. Rosemont Manor was late Senator Harry Bryd's personal residence. The venue boost beautifully landscaped lawns and the inside of the venue was even more amazing! I will let the pictures speak for themselves!

Now on the important stuff! One of the most unique features about Rosemont is all the INDOOR space they have! I have so many brides and grooms that want a park like or historic setting, but don't want to spend the money on a tent. For under 150 guests, you have THREE options! I can't think of any other venue that has that many options! For over 150 guests, they have over 60 acres for you set up a fabulous tent. They  have multiple packages to accommodate all budgets and can sleep up to 22 on site(with more to come!).

Map it out!

Many of my DC brides worry about out of town guests worry about guests getting lost in the hustle and bustle of the district. I was recently introduced to Nancy Howell's lovely designs that would eliminate that worry, as well as add a chic design to your invitations or welcome bags :)

How fabulous are these!?

Can you see more of Nancy's work here:
